Categories, Format and Content

There are five mathematics problem-solving tests. Each contains 28 to 40 multiple-choice questions; 90 minutes are allowed for students to work with the test.

The test categories are:
*         Pre-Algebra
*         Algebra First Course/Integrated Math I
*         Geometry/Integrated Math II
*         Algebra Second Course/Integrated Math III
*         Comprehensive

Questions for the first four categories may be related to the content identified in Indiana's academic standards or included in state-approved textbooks. The content of the Comprehensive category is drawn from pre-calculus mathematics including trigonometry, finite mathematics, simple linear algebra, probability, statistics, and analytic geometry.  A non-programmable calculator is permitted.  Please see below for a partial list of acceptable calculators.

Participants

ICTM is dedicated to supporting Indiana public and private school teachers.  Parents or guardians will be asked to register their students for the contest, with the understanding that ICTM will ask for each child's math teacher's name and email address to verify registration status.

A student should be registered for the test category that matches the course in which they are CURRENTLY enrolled.  Students may not participate or register for a test category out of sequence (Order:  Pre-algebra, Algebra I/Integrated I, Geometry/Integrated II, Algebra II/Integrated III, Comprehensive).  For example, a competitor who previously competed in the Geometry/Integrated II category may not 'test back' in the Algebra I/Integrated I category; likewise, a competitor who previously competed in the Algebra II/Integrated III category may not 'test back' in the Algebra I/Integrated I or the Geometry/Integrated II category.  A participant may take only one test each year.

* Participants in the Pre-Algebra category are limited to Upper Elementary, Middle/Junior High School students who have not yet enrolled in an Algebra I/Integrated I high school mathematics course;

* Students who are enrolled in either an Algebra I or Integrated I course will register for the Algebra I/Integrated Math I test;

* Students who are enrolled in either a Geometry or Integrated Mathematics II course will register for the Geometry/Integrated Math II test; and,

* Students who are enrolled either an Algebra II or Integrated Mathematics III course will register for the Algebra II/Integrated Math III test.

Students may participate in the Pre-Algebra category more than once.  Upper Elementary and Middle/Junior High School students not already enrolled in an Algebra I/Integrated I high school equivalent course should register for this exam.  Once a student is enrolled in an Algebra I/Integrated I course, the student is no longer eligible to compete in the Pre-Algebra category.

Students may participate only one time in each of the Algebra I/Integrated Math I, Geometry/Integrated Math II, or Algebra II/Integrated Math III categories.  Students must follow the sequence in the order listed above.  A student enrolled in Geometry/Integrated II (for example) may not 'test back' in a category out of sequence with the course in which they are enrolled such as Algebra I/Integrated I; likewise, a student enrolled in Algebra II/Integrated III (for example) may not 'test back' in a category out of sequence such as Algebra I/Integrated I or Geometry/Integrated II.

Students may participate in the Comprehensive category more than once. Once a student participates in the Comprehensive category, the student may only compete in the Comprehensive category again until the student graduates from high school.

Registration, Certification and Fees

Registration Information:

There is a non-refundable $7.00 participant fee for each student.  Participants will be registered by their parents or guardians.  ICTM reserves the right to verify each participant's school and math class enrollment to ensure that each particpant is taking the approriate test.

Registration is now open and it closes April 4th, with no late registrations allowed.
